About this deal

Glue the strips into the channels of one surface, and use clamps to hold them in place while they dry. The top surface consists of one 1/2" sheet and one 1/4" sheet of wood that will be cut into different shapes and glued together. I added some diagrams for a better visualization of the milled cuts and channels. I put Drift next to a record player, and it paired nicely with this old way of listening to music. At first, I set Drift’s light to pulse and change colors every 60 seconds. The novelty of that lighting combination wore off fast, but I did find that changing the lighting color and hue does have a real effect on how the patterns look and the feelings they produce. After some time, I found myself gravitating toward a warm light hue for most uses. I would have liked a little adjustable height stand to come with it making it even more usable as a piece of furniture. Homedics is proud to partner with Bring Change to Mind to bring awareness to mental health. Bring Change to Mind is an incredible organization rooted in ending the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness. To show our support in advocating for mental illness, we are donating a portion from every drift sold to Bring Change to Mind.

While I have yet to run out of fresh patterns for the Drift to make, there isn’t an infinite amount. I currently count 51 designs available. I think that number is perfectly fine. It would be nice if more were made available in the app in the future, and the company says additional will come, but even if that never happens I think people will be satisfied by the amount of variation currently available. compact calm: The same unbeatable drift tranquility, now perfect for smaller spaces; compact 11” diameter means you can enjoy premium calm, even when space is at a premium; adds zen to your desk, console, or side table without taking over Cut a circle in the 1/2" sheet with a diameter that is 1" less than the diameter of the glass (in my case it would be 30"). Make sure that you account for the size of the router bit that is being used for an accurate cut. There are hundreds of patterns available on the Drift. Some of them have messages like “#1 Dad” or “You are loved”, while others are symbolic of our favorite holidays with a Christmas Tree and a Thanksgiving turkey available. I really hope they expand upon these message and holiday type patterns which give it that extra personal touch. Another cool future feature would be the ability to create your own limited space, text only, message patterns, which is totally doable with some additional programming. Maybe we will see that in a future update or release.

I was first exposed to the idea of a kinetic sand table through a "Dope Tech" video from YouTuber MKBHD. He had a large and very expensive version. The HoMedics Drift is a smaller and more affordable option that may be able to find a place in the living room, bedroom or small business. TL;DR Larger screws and nuts for securing the flange bearing to the base (I found these at my local hardware store)

Side note - HoMedics customer service was great and jumped right in to help with the pairing; I’d just prefer better instructions than the ones provided. I bought four separate gantry wheels and a larger gantry plate to be compliant with my "40x20" setup. I mounted the gantry plate in the same way that it's mounted on the 20x40 V-Slot in the OpenBuilds kit. I made sure to adjust the spacing of the wheels by turning the eccentric spacers on 2 of the wheels until the gantry plate firmly secured and would start gliding when the V-Slot was tilted to one side. The HoMedics Drift meditation sand table has been one of the coolest decorative items I’ve ever owned! It’s decor with function and the function is to captivate and soothe your mind. I know they call it a table, and you can rest a drink on it or set other decorative items on it for display, but I prefer to think of it as additional lighting, more of a low profile lamp with some really great features! I covered the seems of the outside wall by gluing a thin wood sheet, but this can also be done with wood filler and sanding.

The status screen will tell you what its doing, what color light is selected and what percentage of the drawing is done. You can set the speed that it draws, and the brightness of the surrounding LEDs. You can also define what how the LEDs change colors, from what to what… All easy to do. HoMedics, of course, takes this concept up a notch (or a hundred notches). It transforms what used to be a kid’s toy into a luxury product using high-end materials and app control. The Drift isn’t the first kinetic sand table on the market, but it’s widely available as of its 2022 launch and requires no technical knowledge to set up. (The demand for kinetic sand tables has actually been so high—and so unmet—in recent years that many enthusiasts have shared their DIY tutorials online. However, with woodworking, wiring, and coding components, they’re far from one-day projects.) How to control the HoMedics Drift sand table While I have yet to run out of fresh patterns for the Drift to make, there isn't an infinite amount. I currently count 51 designs available. I think that number is perfectly fine. It would be nice if more were made available in the app in the future, and the company says additional will come, but even if that never happens I think people will be satisfied by the amount of variation currently available. Within the first day of use, I had tapped play on close to a dozen designs. It's addicting to watch the little sphere roll around and make intricate patterns come to life. HoMedics positions the device as one for wellness. Watching it is supposed to promote mindfulness and a calming feeling. I can see how Drift could do that for some people. For me, it was much less about a calming presence and more about a neat piece of decoration. It's modern and simple enough to blend in, but with its light, it can be as attention-grabbing as you want it to be.

“drift is a really helpful tool to experience mindfulness. It’s also a great reminder to take a moment for yourself.”

Today, zen gardens are popular in Western culture in the form of desktop accessories. Rather than being places for Buddhist meditation, these compact sand gardens are meant to deliver an aesthetically pleasing moment of mindfulness. They’re meant to pull you and your thoughts into the moment so you can enjoy creativity, focus, and a calm, relaxed mental state at home or in the office. In the SD card's directory, create a file called "ssh" (or create a text file and rename it to "ssh"). Then create another file called "wpa_supplicant.conf". Copy the text from below and paste it into the file. country=US It’s a great build that focuses on the smaller details like noise that can make a big difference to the final experience. We’ve seen similar projects before, too. Video after the break.
